The Ashby Canal for example, can have around 3000 pass through in a year&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;These are usually converted workboats, but can be purpose-built. They are fully equipped for living aboard, and some of the bigger ones (50 feet and more) can sleep up to six.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The green narrowboat in the foreground is a British Waterways workboat. This is a stretch of the Ashby Canal, near Measham in the West Midlands, England.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This shot was taken in late Autumn 2004.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This canal formed part of the Midlands canal network which, together with other canal networks, provided much of the transport needs both during and after the Industrial Revolution in England. It was built in the late 1790's, and was used mainly to move high-grade locally-mined coal to the furnace at nearby Moira ironworks.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/2139/1333/1600/000_canoe.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="DISPLAY: block;
