Biomech /Practice Booster Workshops update

Good morning everyone,

An update on the Practice Booster Workshop (Wednesday 9th November 2005) and the 2-day Biomech Workshop (Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th November 2005).

Both Workshops will take place at Champneys-Springs Health Resort near Ashby (see map below).

We have arranged accomodation at Champneys for the Biomech Workshop only.

We won't know if accomodation is available for us for the Practice Booster until October

(if the England under-21's soccer squad qualify in their competition, they get preference I'm afraid!).

We've arranged nearby alternative accomodation (cost £56 per night for B and B) and details will be sent out with the Welcome Pack.

For those who wish to stay at Champneys for the Biomech Workshop we have nine rooms reserved on Tuesday night, and nine on Wednesday night. The cost is £75 or thereabouts a night, and includes full use of the facilities, a Thalassis treatment and Dinner, Bed and Breakfast. This is a fabulous deal and not to be missed!

Details of how to book, either at Champneys or the alternative accomodation, will be sent to you with your Welcome Pack.

Narrowboats (like the ones seen here) are a common sight on those canals still navigable. The Ashby Canal for example, can have around 3000 pass through in a year

These are usually converted workboats, but can be purpose-built. They are fully equipped for living aboard, and some of the bigger ones (50 feet and more) can sleep up to six.

The green narrowboat in the foreground is a British Waterways workboat. These are used as transport up and down canals (for men and machinery) for general maintainance, which may include trimming waterside vegetation and hedges, lopping trees, and maintaining banks and bridges.
The cabin at the back provides welcome shelter for a cup of tea and a bite!

This is what it's all about! This is a stretch of the Ashby Canal, near Measham in the West Midlands, England.

This shot was taken in late Autumn 2004.

This canal formed part of the Midlands canal network which, together with other canal networks, provided much of the transport needs both during and after the Industrial Revolution in England. It was built in the late 1790's, and was used mainly to move high-grade locally-mined coal to the furnace at nearby Moira ironworks.

This is a Wastwater 16 - stitch-and-glue canoe made from marine plywood.

On the first outing (before painting), she floats (good!) and handles well.

Some seating adjustments may have to be made........
